I like the night. Without the dark, we’d never see the stars.

"Goodbye, Bella," he said in the same quiet, peaceful voice.

There was a light, unnatural breeze. My eyes flashed open. The leaves shuddered with the gentle wind of his passage.

He was gone.

With shaky legs, ignoring the fact that my action was useless, I followed him into the forest. The evidence of his path had disappeared instantly. There were no footprints, the leaves were still again, but I walked forward without thinking. I could not do anything else. I had to keep moving. If I stopped looking for him, it was over.

Love, life, meaning… over.

The idea for Twilight came to Stephenie Meyer in a dream on the night of June 2, 2003. In that dream, she saw what eventually became Chapter 13 of Twilight. She started writing out the details of the dream, calling her two characters only “he” and “she” as they were unnamed at the time. From that point on she wrote something every day until she was able to fill in the rest of the story. And that is how the tale of Edward & Bella was born.

"There’s nothing about me that could hold you."

"Your hold is permanent and unbreakable."

"It would be hard to find someone less sad than I am now. Impossible, I’d venture. Not many people get every single thing they want, plus all the things they didn’t think to ask for, in the same day."

"Would you like to hear my story, Bella? It doesn’t have a happy ending - but which of ours does? If we had happy endings, we’d all be under gravestones now."
